Give to the KCDC

Health and Nutrition

At the K-CDC we strive to model healthy habits for the children. Each year, students from Truman’s nursing program visit our classroom, interacting with the children and presenting a variety of wellness and safety topics during group time.

In menu planning, we follow guidelines prepared by the State of Missouri that include well-balanced choices from several food groups. We try to select whole foods and avoid excessive sugar, food colorings, artificial sweeteners and other additives. Meals are served family style, offering an opportunity for children to practice social skills of serving and passing food. Children often help clean and set the tables and are responsible for clearing their own place when finished eating.

The K-CDC also participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, run by the State of Missouri.
